What is a life coach?
A life coach is someone who works with you on any aspect of your life that you want to change. A good one is “compassionately detached.” They hold space for you to explore possibilities, a safe space.
What is the difference between a life coach and a therapist or a counselor?
A therapist tends to focus on the past and the reasons why you do what you do.
A counselor may be focused on the present, and will give advice or direction or instructions.
A life coach is definitely focused on now – and works with you to uncover what is best for you. In the process, the past tends to be healed.
Coaches are sometimes the missing link between a therapist or counselor and the real life of a client. While a therapist can help you understand why you do what you do, a life coach can help you put what you learn from them into practice.
Why do I need a life coach?
Everyone needs a life coach at some time in their life, sometimes more than once.
Whenever we get stuck in our own heads or can’t figure out the next best thing to do, a life coach can help us sort out our options, help us see opportunities and possibilities that we don’t see on our own. They give us a different perspective and we choose whether or not to use it.
How often do I need to talk to a life coach?
It depends on you – what do you want to accomplish? How firmly do you want to embed your changes in your life and behavior? Are you trying to move a mountain or a molehill in your life?
Some people want only one session, some people choose packages, or a specific subject, some people want on-going support and may choose a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule. It’s up to you.
How much does it cost?
Several options are available:
Because I love coaching people and supporting them as they take control of their lives, there is a sliding scale for people who need it.
If you choose one of the packages or group coaching, the rates are discounted a bit from the cost of an individual session.
Details are on the “Opportunities” page.
What are your qualifications for being a life coach?
#1. For my whole life I’ve been able to see options for what people could do to change the results they were getting in their lives.
#2. Studying to become a Certified Fearless Living Coach (CFLC), which involved nine months of studying and practicing the skills that make an excellent coach, with the Fearless Living Institute.
#3. Reading widely with a curiosity about psychology, sociology, human behavior, and relationships. I’m still doing that. My education continues.
